秋葵视频 Symphony Debut to be Broadcast Live Online
The 秋葵视频 Symphony will open their 2012-2013 season with a performance on Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Performing Arts Center in Statesboro.聽 Adding to the 鈥渇irst鈥 theme, Georgia Southern will for the first time broadcast a performance of the Georgia Southern Symphony live online and via web-enabled smart phones.
鈥淭his is a wonderful opportunity to reach our audiences who may be too far away to attend the live concert,鈥 said Richard Mercier, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Music. 鈥淭he live broadcast also makes it possible for our students鈥 parents to see them perform, no matter where they live.鈥
鈥淭his is the first time that we have broadcasted a concert live online,鈥 said Steve Burrell, vice president for information technology and chief information officer at 秋葵视频.聽 鈥淣othing can take the place of hearing our talented musicians in person.聽 However, we realize that many of our alumni, parents, online students and music enthusiasts around the world cannot make it to Statesboro.聽聽 Through technology, they will now have access to a world-class symphony performance live from their computer or mobile device.鈥
The Georgia Southern Symphony is conducted by Maestro Adrian Gnam, and the performance will feature such works as Beethoven鈥檚 鈥淐oriolan Overture Op. 62,鈥 Kent Kennan鈥檚 鈥淣ight Soliloquy,鈥 Mozart鈥檚 鈥淪ymphony No. 1鈥 and Franz Schubert鈥檚 鈥淪ymphony No. 8.鈥 Anna Thibeault, professor of flute in the Department of Music, will join the Symphony during the 鈥淣ight Soliloquy鈥 performance.
At 6:45 p.m. Gnam will present a pre-concert introduction to the performance in the Russell Union Ballroom.
Tickets to the talk and performance are free, and the live broadcast is available at GeorgiaSouthern.TV. For more information, contact the Department of Music at 912-478-5396.
