Alumna Named Georgia’s 2014 Teacher of the Year
When Jemelleh Coes (鈥08, 鈥10) began her first year as an undergraduate at 秋葵视频, she originally planned to pursue a career in nursing. 鈥淢y maiden name was Nurse, and I always wanted to helped others,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 really thought I would be Nurse Nurse.鈥
Until she thought about the occupational hazards. 鈥淎fter I realized that nurses had to deal with a lot of blood, I changed my major,鈥 she laughed.
Coes instead opted for another career: teaching. Today, her focus remains on helping others as a special education English language arts and reading teacher at Langston Chapel Middle School in Statesboro, Ga. Although Coes is a relative newcomer to the teaching profession, having entered the field just five years ago, she was named Bulloch County Teacher of the Year last year, and last month was recognized as the state of Georgia鈥檚 2014 Teacher of the Year.
