Center for Sustainability Goes Green for GreenFest 2014
The 秋葵视频 (CfS) is preparing for a full day of 鈥済oing green鈥 during its second annual GreenFest on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Bulloch County Courthouse lawn, 2 N. Main St., from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. The event is dedicated to encouraging a green community and making greener choices.
鈥淲e hope that visitors will learn that聽it鈥檚 easier than they might think to make green choices,鈥 said Lissa Leege, Ph.D., director of the Center for Sustainability. 鈥淲e have the technology to reduce energy and water use and can make the choice to reduce waste and eat sustainably grown food.鈥
This year the CfS will feature three workshops to help transition into a greener lifestyle. The workshops are Green Your Gameday 鈥 Sustainable Tailgating, Green Your Lunchbox and Create Your Own Worm Compost Bin.
鈥淲e hope to match consumers up with the resources and solutions that will help them save green while going green,鈥 said Leege. 鈥淰isitors will learn about how to get a free low-flow shower head or rebate on a low-flow commode from the City of Statesboro鈥檚 Department of Water and Wastewater.鈥
In addition to the workshops, the CfS and volunteers from student organizations and biology and nutrition classes will host exhibits and activities for the community. Some of those activities include live music by Pladd Dot鈥檚 School of Rock and green storytelling by the Statesboro Regional Library. Guests will also be able to ride electric go-carts courtesy of the Clubhouse, view recycled packaging from Pratt Industries, see an electric car from Nissan and learn about Georgia Southern鈥檚 Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art鈥檚 Moth project.
Last year GreenFest drew more than 30 vendors and nearly 1000 visitors and this year the University is expecting more.
