Senior Exhibitions begin with group exhibit 鈥楶rocess鈥� on Armstrong Campus
The Department of Art at the 秋葵视频 Armstrong Campus will host undergraduate Spring 2018 Senior Exhibitions during March and April in the Fine Arts Gallery in Savannah.
The first exhibition, 鈥淧rocess,鈥� will open March 8 and be on display weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the closing reception on March 23 at 5:30 p.m. Both the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
鈥淧rocess鈥� is a group showcase highlighting the artwork of students Jennifer Murphy, Morgan Walker, Adarian Rucker and Austin Cameron who are set to receive their Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts (BFA) degrees in May. Each artist presents their own approach in medium, theme and message, all unified under one roof to show their creative process.
鈥淲hile each student鈥檚 work is distinct from others, the exhibit is unified by an overall interest in narrative,鈥� said Professor of Art Rachel Green, MFA.
Murphy has created a series of mixed media paintings using images of nature to address the importance of empathy and kindness in contemporary society. 鈥淚 want to be an example of what cultivating happiness in your life can look like, and with help from nature, you can help spread kindness,鈥� she said.
鈥淪pace is ever expanding like an artist’s creativity,鈥� said Walker, whose work displays digital character sheets and posters from a comic that she has been developing over several years.
Rucker鈥檚 work is a series of series of digital illustrations that focus on irony. 鈥淟ife is an image of our imagination,鈥� said Rucker.
鈥淎rt is an expression of a person鈥檚 life and the ever-changing direction it takes,鈥� said Cameron, who has created digital mixed media using sample textures to make whimsical visuals incorporating literature.
Senior Exhibitions are completed by undergraduate students as part of the capstone experience when earning the BFA in visual arts or the Bachelor of Art in Art degrees. Students each create a cohesive body of artwork that is exhibited in the Fine Arts Gallery in small student-led groups.
Completed in preparation for entrance into graduate school or a creative field, the exhibitions accompany a thesis paper, one example of the professional artistic practices accomplished during the senior portfolio and senior seminar courses taught by Green and Associate Professor of Art Angela Horne, MFA. Visual arts faculty mentor students both in and out of the classroom as they prepare for this experience.
The second Senior Exhibitions showing will be on display from March 29 through April 11.
