Georgia Southern student overcomes hurdles to complete her degree after 21 years

“I chose education to educate others,” stated Alexis N. Washington, who will proudly walk across the commencement stage this weekend — 21 years after she first began her studies on the Armstrong Campus — to earn a bachelor of liberal arts and a minor in sociology.

Georgia Southern student awarded Fulbright English Teaching Assistant grant

Ƶ Spanish and French major Emily Pressler has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) grant for the 2019-2020 academic year. Pressler’s placement will be in Galicia, Spain, and she will assist primarily in English classes for students who speak Spanish, Galician and English.

Georgia Southern to host mental health advocate Patrick J. Kennedy on April 1

Ƶ’s School of Nursing will host pioneer in mental health policy and advocacy, former U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy, to discuss “My Journey: Making Mental Health Essential Health” on April 1. Kennedy’s presentation is free and open to the public and will take place on the University’s Armstrong Campus in the Fine Arts Building Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Georgia Southern researchers solve Casimir Pulaski mysteries, subject of Smithsonian Channel’s “America’s Hidden Stories: The General Was Female?”

General Casimir Pulaski’s monument and tomb is a well-known Savannah landmark that holds a secret. Researchers from Ƶ have solved a mystery about this hero of the American Revolution and revealed something even stranger.

The story behind this historic mystery is revealed in Smithsonian Channel’s documentary, “America’s Hidden Stories: The General Was Female?” The show premieres on Monday, April 8, and will run throughout the month.
