Ƶ’s Institute for Health Logistics & Analytics (IHLA) recently completed mapping vital health resources for four Georgia counties through its new program Community Health Resource Project (CHRP). Similar initiatives in more than a dozen underserved Southeast Georgia counties will be in motion in 2025.
Georgia Southern takes home two notable Georgia history awards
Georgia Southern faculty are making significant contributions to preserving Georgia’s rich history, which are being recognized by the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council (GHRAC). Amy Potter, Ph.D., geography professor at Ƶ, and Lisa Denmark, Ph.D., history professor also at Georgia Southern, were honored with awards from GHRAC for their work on separate historical projects.

Ƶ’s Waters College of Health Professions (WCHP) will host the Norman Fries Distinguished Lecture Series with keynote speaker Don L. Waters on Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. The lecture, titled “A Native Son’s Vision for Southeast Georgia,” will be held at the Statesboro Campus Performing Arts Center.

Georgia Southern’s College of Engineering and Computing receives $500k commitment from Smith Douglas Homes
Ƶ’s Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing has received a commitment of $500,000. The donation is a gift from Smith Douglas Homes in Atlanta, Georgia, that will be used to support additional faculty, provide scholarships and support equipment and supplies needed to educate students in residential construction.
New bachelor’s in biomedical sciences at Georgia Southern approved, debuts Fall 2025
A new Bachelor of Science in biomedical sciences will debut in Ƶ’s College of Science and Mathematics Fall 2025 roster following degree approval at the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents meeting in Atlanta on Oct. 8. The new program is the first of its kind offered by a USG institution.
College of Public Health professor wins international research award
Gulzar Shah, Ph.D., professor and department chair of Health Policy and Community Health in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health was recently awarded a 2024 Best Researcher Award by the organization International Academic Achievements.

Georgia Southern celebrates ‘40 Under 40’ Class of 2024
The Ƶ Alumni Association “40 Under 40” Class of 2024 was recognized at a ceremony on Sept. 13 at the Statesboro Convention & Visitors Bureau. The annual honor recognizes young alumni who have made significant strides in business, leadership, community, educational or philanthropic endeavors.
