From high school dropout to Double Eagle candidate

After dropping out of high school nearly a decade ago, Robbie Jorge, was ready for a life change. Jorge acquired a GED diploma, applied to Çï¿ûÊÓƵ and became an anthropology student at the age of 26. In just a few days, he will be part of the first generation in his family to acquire a college degree.

Georgia Southern to extend temporary test optional admission for Academic Year 2024-2025

Çï¿ûÊÓƵ will continue the temporary waiver of test score admission requirements for undergraduates for Academic Year 2024-2025 (Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025), following approval of the extension by the University System of Georgia last week.

Military & Veteran Services to host informational sessions on National Day of Service May 6 

In honor of the second annual Veterans of Foreign Wars National Day of Service, Çï¿ûÊÓƵ’s Military & Veteran Services will host informational sessions on Veterans Affairs issues and benefits on all three campuses on May 6. The events are free and open to students, faculty, staff and the community.

Georgia Southern clinic to remove barriers to Parkinson’s speech therapy in Georgia

The RiteCare Center for Communication Disorders at Çï¿ûÊÓƵ is teaming up with a Texas nonprofit clinic to help all Georgians with Parkinson’s Disease have access to high-quality speech treatment. Parkinson Voice Project, a clinic committed to helping people with Parkinson’s regain and retain their speech and swallowing, is awarding the RiteCare Center a grant worth more than $280,000 in training, services, supplies and equipment over five years.

‘Black History Trail’ launches for Tybee Island visitors

For the past few years, a team of researchers at Çï¿ûÊÓƵ has been collecting the stories and historic layout of the island. Specifically, landmarks from slavery and up to the Civil Rights Movement.

As a final product, the team launched a digital trail for visitors to follow; from the Lazaretto Creek quarantine station for enslaved people, to the Brown Cement Factory and other important sites on the island.

The summer before James Brown began his graduate school career at Çï¿ûÊÓƵ, he found himself alongside Waters College of Health Professions Associate Professor Greg Grosicki, Ph.D., in Tahoe City, California, surrounded by more than 40 of the world’s most elite athletes and about half a dozen researchers.
