While the world watched the 2020 State of the Union address by President Donald Trump from their living rooms, Georgia Southern first-year student Jaiden E. Thompson witnessed the historic event from a balcony seat at the United States Capitol with U.S. congressmen, senators and Supreme Court justices on the floor level below her.
U.S. News & World Report recognizes Georgia Southern business programs
Ƶ’s online programs in the Parker College of Business were recognized among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, a recognized leader in college and graduate school rankings.
The Parker College of Business’ online MBA tied for the 59th spot on the Best Online MBA Programs list and also tied for the 37th spot on the Best Online MBA Programs for Veterans list.
U.S. News also ranked the college’s online non-MBA business programs — Master of Accounting and Master of Science in Applied Economics — No. 50 in the nation.
The publication ranked more than 1,200 online programs evaluating only regionally accredited institutions offering mostly or entirely online programs. The ranking used five categories: engagement, expert opinion, faculty credentials and training, student excellence and student services and technologies. All programs within the Parker College of Business are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which is the gold standard of business school accreditation.

Ƶ police identify suspect, leads to arrest in sexual assault case
The Ƶ Police Department has identified Brandon Harris as the suspect in a sexual assault that was reported to University police on November 17, 2019. Harris turned himself in to police following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest on felony rape charges.
Georgia Southern students host first annual Coastal Georgia Reverse Science Fair
The Association for the Advancement of Young Scientists, an organization founded by Ƶ senior chemistry major Chelsea Miller, will host the first annual Coastal Georgia Reverse Science Fair on April 11 at the Southwest Chatham Library in Savannah. The reverse science fair is a research symposium for local graduate and undergraduate researchers where visiting high school students will judge their presentations.
Armstrong Campus hosts annual ‘High School Congressional Exhibition’
Ƶ’s Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art will host the annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students in Georgia’s 1st Congressional District. Works in “An Artistic Discovery” will be displayed on the Armstrong Campus in the Fine Arts Gallery. The exhibition will run on weekdays Feb. 10-23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a closing reception on Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Georgia Southern students to provide free income tax preparation for community
Georgia Southern senior Alyssa Morgan is looking forward to tax season this year. As a student in the School of Accountancy in the Parker College of Business, Morgan will gain hands-on experience with tax preparation as she and her peers offer free tax prep and e-file services to residents in Statesboro and surrounding communities through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
