The Cornerstone of a Community
Çï¿ûÊÓƵ’s state-of-the-art Center for Health Sciences is located in the historic Five Points of downtown Albemarle, North Carolina. The Center for Health Sciences is home to the Master of Physician Assistant Studies and Master of Occupational Therapy programs. These programs are built on Pfeiffer’s graduate clinical simulation education model, which brings life into books and books into life.
The facility features the Center for Advanced Clinical Simulation Education (CACSE), which includes four simulated ICU rooms, a surgical suite, and an emergency department trauma bay. Each of these rooms is equipped with a high fidelity, computerized human simulator. Additionally, the CACSE features a fully functional clinic with six exam rooms, where faculty and students provide community health services.
Master of Physician Assistant Studies
The Physician Assistant program features two dedicated technologically advanced classrooms and a multipurpose room for collaborative learning activities. Students also receive instruction in a cadaveric Human Gross Anatomy Lab. Gross anatomy labs give each student the opportunity to dissect and study the human body. In addition to lab instruction, students participate in team-based learning activities where they apply anatomical principles to clinical scenarios.
Master of Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapy program has a full Activities of Daily Living (ADL) room with a functional kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. The ADL facilitates experiential learning of various occupational tasks with simulated disabilities. OT students also receive instruction in a cadaveric Human Gross Anatomy Lab. Gross anatomy labs provide each student the opportunity to dissect and study the human body. In addition to lab instruction, students participate in team-based learning activities where they apply anatomical principles to clinical scenarios.
